Natural Vascular Scaffolding (NVS)
What is NVS Therapy?
Natural Vascular Scaffolding (NVS)© is a light-activated, novel drug combined with a delivery device. When activated in the presence of an angioplasty procedure, NVS creates a new natural structure (scaffolding) to keep the blood vessel open for adequate blood flow, eliminating the need for a stent, which can cause complications over time.
This novel approach has the potential to eliminate recoil, restenosis or closure of the treated vessel without the use of implantable devices.
How does it work?
A drug-delivery balloon is inserted via catheter into the diseased artery and is filled with the NVS drug. During the delivery phase, the NVS drug is delivered to the artery wall tissue through the balloon pores.
A percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) catheter is then inserted along with the NVS light fiber. The PTA balloon is inflated, and the NVS light source is activated to deliver light in the treatment zone. The light activates the NVS drug and produces protein cross-linking that provides the NVS effect (scaffolding).
