Michael Elliott, MD, is senior vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, SD. As the flagship facility of the Avera Health System, McKennan delivers comprehensive health care and extensive medical specialty services to residents of South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa.
In his role, Dr. Elliott collaborates with hospital administration and medical staff to grow the people, programs and facilities at Avera McKennan in ways that serve patient needs both locally and regionally.
Prior to this senior management position, he served as a board-certified pediatrician for over a decade.
Dr. Elliott received a medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in Grand Forks, ND. He completed his residency – where he also served as chief resident – at Michigan State University and Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, MI.
In addition to his work at Avera, Dr. Elliott continues to be an influential leader in the community by serving on and participating in Sioux Falls Rotary West, Center for Family Medicine board of directors (past president), McCrossan Boys Ranch board of directors, Healthcare CMO Roundtable, American Academy of Physician Leaders, Avera Physician Leadership Academy (co-facilitator) and as an instructor at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.
