Julie N. Norton

Julie N. Norton, vice president of operational finance for Avera Health, directs and leads the management of site-specific financial performance for Avera Health, an integrated health system which covers more than 330 locations in 100 communities across the Upper Midwest. From 1999 to 2017, she served at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center as controller of managed hospitals, vice president and corporate controller and then as senior vice president and chief financial officer.
In 2009, Norton was recognized by Modern Healthcare magazine as one of the 12 “Up and Comers” in health care management.
Prior to joining Avera, Norton served in several positions including audit manager at Coopers & Lybrand and PricewaterhouseCoopers. She is a certified public accountant licensed in Arizona and South Dakota. She is also a Chartered Global Management Accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Norton received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with majors in accounting and mathematics from the University of South Dakota. She graduated with highest honors (4.0 GPA), was the 1993 USD School of Business Outstanding Senior and a 2013 USD Beacom School of Business Distinguished Alumnus.
She is an active member in a variety of community and professional organizations. She has served on the boards and has been or is an officer of the South Dakota Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Sioux Falls Catholic Schools, Sioux Empire United Way, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Sioux Falls Area CASA. She also currently serves on the Principles and Practices Board for National HFMA.
